Shaun McLeod, M.Sc., P.Eng.

Principal Design Engineer

Shaun’s passion for engineering was nurtured by his family and his father, who encouraged him to pursue his passion. With his dedication to academic pursuits, he graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 2001 with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and again in 2007 with a Masters of Science in Civil Engineering.

Shaun began working at Catterall & Wright as a summer student between 1997 and 2000.  He began full-time at Catterall & Wright in 2003 while completing his M.Sc. As a project engineer, Shaun has gained hands-on experience in overseeing municipal engineering projects from start to finish. Shaun’s practical approach reflects his ability to find pragmatic solutions to engineering challenges and manage risk. Areas of practice and expertise include water and wastewater treatment, pumping systems, storm water management systems, water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, and sanitary force mains.  Shaun enjoys the challenges of hydraulics and water quality and working with clients to find a solution that meets their needs.

A notable project that Shaun has been involved with in the City of Saskatoon includes South Downtown Riverfront, River Landing. The Riverfront development began in 2004, with the 1st Phase to include a riverwalk promenade with a pedestrian bridge, a children’s water park area, an amphitheatre, a food service pavilion, a fire pit, a river garden with water and interpretive sculptural elements, and a variety of connecting pathways.  Phase 2 Riverfront, initiated in 2006, included the riverfront promenade walkway, connecting paths and reclamation of the abandoned cooling water pumphouse in preparation for a future restaurant. In recognition, the Project Team and Catterall & Wright received the Exceptional Engineering/Geoscience Project Award in 2009 from APEGS for the South Downtown Riverfront-Phase1.

As a Partner since 2010 and a Principal at Catterall & Wright, Shaun’s role goes beyond his management and technical expertise in the Water Group. He assumes a wide range of management responsibilities, including overseeing the company’s information technology, information sharing/collaboration tools, and website support. Shaun takes an active role in promoting health and safety practices within the company. He is co-chair of the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) committee.

Shaun actively participates in professional development activities and is dedicated to staying updated on the latest technologies and best practices methods within the industry for our clients and their projects. He attends conferences and workshops, one being the Optimal Design and Operation of RO Units Seminar, David H. Paul, Inc., 2012.

Shaun is a registered Professional Engineer in the Provinces of Saskatchewan (APEGS) and Alberta (APEGA) and maintains Permission to Consult in the field of Municipal Engineering.  Shaun is a voting representative and volunteers with the Association of Consulting Engineers of Canada – Saskatchewan (ACEC-SK) and a member of the Water Environment sub-committee interfacing with regulators and government agencies.  He is a member of the Water Environment Federation (WEF), American Water & Wastewater Association (AWWA) and Western Canada Water (WCW).

Outside of work, Shaun enjoys catching a good game of soccer (at any skill level), camping, and being active with his wife and three children.  In addition to following his children in their endeavours, he volunteers with Scouts Canada.
